A private A-frame cabin for 3, minutes from the Ruka slopes — outdoor sauna, a firepit under the trees, and a loft bedroom with windows built for watching the aurora from bed.
Photos go here once you upload them — this grid holds the layout so you can drop images straight in.
An A-frame for three, in two bedrooms. Ruka runs on snow for seven months and green trails for the rest — this cabin is set up for both, ski boots by the door in winter, hiking poles by June.
We spent a long time finding this spot: close enough to town to still feel connected, far enough out that light pollution doesn't wash out the sky. The loft bedroom sits under a wall of glass, angled north — most nights it's just stars, but on the right night, it's the aurora, seen from under the covers. Downstairs, the outdoor sauna and firepit do the rest of the work.
Private, wood-fired, steps from the cabin door.
Under the trees, best after dark with the sky clear.
The bedroom sits under floor-to-ceiling windows, facing north.
Everything for a proper meal after a day outside.
Room to breathe — not the shared, closet-sized version.
Reliable enough to work from, if you must.
Room for skis, boards, boots, and everything wet.
If you like the idea of exploring on your own schedule, renting a car opens things up: Riisitunturi's fells for an afternoon, Oulanka's trails whenever the mood strikes, or driving ten minutes past the treeline on a clear night to watch the aurora with nobody else around. It's also simply convenient. A proper grocery run in Kuusamo, dinner in town, stepping straight from a warm car into a warm cabin on the coldest nights.
Prefer not to drive? An airport bus runs from Kuusamo to Ruka, and taxis are available locally. Plenty of guests get everything they came for without ever getting behind the wheel.
One of the longest snow seasons in Europe, followed by a quieter green one — the cabin adjusts to both.
Slopes open early, crowds haven't arrived yet.
Full snow, aurora season, Christmas atmosphere.
Best snow conditions with noticeably longer days.
Hiking, Oulanka National Park, quiet trails.

A car gives you the most flexibility, since the cabin sits a short drive from the village for the sake of dark skies. That said, an airport bus runs from Kuusamo Airport to Ruka, and taxis are available locally.
Aurora season in Ruka runs roughly September to March, on clear, dark nights — most sightings happen between 10pm and 2am.
Not currently — the loft is reached by stairs and isn't suitable for guests with mobility restrictions. We're building a second, single-floor cabin with wheelchair access — get in touch and we'll let you know when it's ready.
We're putting the finishing touches on Ruka A-Frame. Leave your email and we'll let you know the moment bookings open.
Thanks — we'll email you as soon as bookings open.
